The Nigerian Army has assured the Management of Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (Ogun-Oshun RBDA) of provision of Anti-Terrorist Security at the major Dam Projects of the Authority, most especially Oyan River Dam and Owiwi Dam in Ogun State.
The Head of Public Relations / Protocols of Ogun-Oshun RBDA, Adeniyi Saliu, in a statement said the Commander, 35 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brigadier General Ehimwenma Amadasun gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of the Authority, at Alabata, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Brigade Commander according to the statement, said he decided to visit the Authority in order to ensure a cordial working relationship between the Authority and the Nigerian Army.
He seized the opportunity of the visit to seek for the Authority’s assistance in drilling of boreholes for provision of potable water at the Command’s premises.
The Army General also urged the Authority to provide necessary assistance and support in the area of Agricultural production for the Military Officers, especially the Wives Association interested in Farming activities in Aquaculture, Poultry, Livestock and Arable crops.
He noted that the Army Barracks have large expanse of arable lands that need to be developed and put into Agricultural uses.
In his response, the Managing Director /Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the Authority, Olufemi Odumosu congratulated Brigadier General Amadasun on his new posting.
Odumosu said the assurance of provision of security at the Oyan River Dam which according to him is vulnerable to possible terrorist threats is commendable, considering the marching order given by the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, on the need for RBDAs to ensure the safety and security of their Dams in the Nigeria.
He assured that the Authority will look into the requests made by the Commander with the aim of finding lasting solution to them as soon as possible, such as facilitating the drilling of borehole and rehabilitation of the existing non-productive ones, as well as providing agricultural implements and irrigation facilities where feasible, to improve the desired agricultural production within the Army barracks.
The Commander was accompanied by other Senior Military Officers at the Command, while the MD/CEO of Ogun-Oshun RBDA was joined by the Executive Director Engineering, Engr Babalola Olatunji, Engr Azeez Adeoye, ED(F&A), Dayo Babaranti, ED(Agric Services), Oladipo Akinlade and other Directors of the Authority to receive the Visitors.
